Bulletin Announcements for April 15,2018

A warm welcome to all who have gathered with us for worship this Sunday morning. May be a time of fellowship with God and neighbour.

Greeters this Sunday are Judy Shaw and Nettie Cameron.

Babies and toddlers who don’t want to stay in the service for worship are welcome to make use of the nursery located in the multipurpose room. The nursery has toys and a friendly adult in attendance.

This Sunday we are pleased to have the Rev. Doug Stewart leading our service of worship.

The Rev. Peter Smith is away on study leave from April 4th until April 17th. If there is a pastoral emergency during that time please contact the Rev. Doug Stewart at (902) 735-2102 or through the St. Martha’s Hospital Switchboard during the day (902) 867-4500.

Thanks to everyone who shared their gifts of music this Holy Week and Easter. Many gifts and skills combined to enrich our services of worship.

It’s Not Easy Being Green, 10-15 years ago we tried to be a “Green Church” We have had some success but we must try harder.
The kitchen is the recipient of many of the “ungreen” products, PLASTICS. Each week we will inform you of some of the Worst offenders called “Kirmets Kitchen Kick off’s”
Styro foam – containers known carcinogen styrene, is recyclable, but!!! used for take out food containers, meat trays, the list is endless. We ask for Your ideas – What can we do?

7:30 pm New date: Paving Paradise? Every day is “Earth Day”. Antigonish Choral Ensemble, with special Guests, St. James Handbell Trio and St. FX Vocal Ensembles. The Concert will be held at St. James United Church tonight April 15.

Saturday, April 28. St. James UCW will be holding their annual Spring Yard Sale. We are accepting the usual sale items – household goods, toys, furniture, etc. No Clothing or Out-of-Season items. Donations must be in good working condition, clean, and all pieces included. Please no tv’s, printers, computers, keyboards as they do not sell. We ask that you check with Barb Gardiner at 863-1641 if you have larger items to drop off as we don’t have room to store them for any length of time. Drop-off times for all other items: March 26 – April 13, weekdays from 10 to 12 noon. These dates allow us time to sort and price everything prior to the sale. Please call Barb if you have any questions.

PAR (Pre Authorized Remittance) is as easy to start as one-two-three. 1) Ask to sign up at the church office. 2)Fill in the amount you want to give each month. 3) Know that each month your gift goes to help the church do God’s work here in Antigonish and around the world! Council Highlights
St. James United Church – Matrch 20, 1018
Welcome to Council Highlights! Below is information about what happened at the last Council meeting and key decisions made.
Th Council welcomes new members: Alistair Hamilton, Ida Sarty, Irene MacLeod, Barbara Gardiner, Paul van de Weil, Betty Webber
A search committee was formed to find a new church administrator with Andrea’s upcoming retirement this June. If anyone from the congregation is intereted in sitting on this committee please speak with Rev. Peter
Council approved a recommendation from Worship Committee to replace the current plastic communion cups with new glass cups.
Rev. Peter reported that the changes to the wider church which were voted on in the fall have all been approved and will be brought forward to the General Council Meeting this summer.
Council approved a recommendation from Property and Trustees to purchase of an automatic electronic defibrillator (AED) for the church building. There was some discussion about training to use it and where it would be located. There was also some discussion about the need to clean out the storage space in the former balcony.
Our Treasurer, Pamela Cunningham, reported that while we are ahead of where we were at this point last year our revenue is a little below budget (i.e. where we woudl like to be financially).
The next meeting of St James United Church Council will be on
May 15, 2018 at 7:00 pm.
