June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time for us to learn about the unique cultures, experiences, and traditions of the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis. As we come to the end of the month let’s take some time and consider what we can do to improve relations with our Indigenous neighbours? Among other things we can
- Follow Paqtnkek on Facebook for upcoming events.
- Get involved with X-Project.
- Go to a PowWow.
- Visit the Mi’kmawey Centre in Debert.
- Inform yourself by reading We Were Not the Savages by Daniel Paul and other books by indigenous authors. (Many are available at the People’s Place Library)
Please note that July 6th is the International Day of Cooperatives. This year cooperatives around the world celebrate the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better Future for All.”; Through dialogue, democratic governance, and shared ownership, cooperatives set an example for peace and stability – bringing people from diverse backgrounds together on equal terms, and fostering mutual understanding and respect.
