The church office at St. James is closed for the summer. The voice mail (902-863-2001), email (office@stjamesuc.com) and mail slot are checked on a regular basis. The office reopens Tuesday, September 2nd.

There are multiple “social justice dates” this week. The 28th is World Hepatitis Day – in 2021, an estimated 214,000 Canadians were living with chronic hepatitis C (an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and cancer), with 41% undiagnosed. That same year, an estimated 8,200 people acquired hepatitis C! The 30th is the International Day of Friendship – a great time to appreciate old friends, make new ones, and reflect on the positive impact friendships have on our lives and societies. And 1 August is Emancipation Day, commemorating the end of slavery throughout the British Empire, with the enactment of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833. It’s a day for reflection on Canada’s history of slavery, the ongoing impacts of colonialism and systemic anti-Black racism, and a time to celebrate the resilience and contributions of Black communities in Canada.

How can you help support the life and work at St. James? If you are worshiping in person there are the offering boxes at the doors for your donation.
