Today is National Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which takes place at the
summer solstice, or longest day of the year. For generations, many First
Nations, Inuit and Métis communities have celebrated their cultures,
languages, and traditions at this time of year. It holds deep spiritual
and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples, marking a time of
renewal, connection, and celebration. The Social Justice Collective hopes
that you have enjoyed and learned from the presentations throughout this
National Indigenous History Month.

The 26th is the International Day in Support of Torture Victims. We
would prefer to pretend this isn’t still an issue – but it is! Torture is a
crime against humanity and a crime under international law. It is
absolutely prohibited and cannot be justified under any circumstances.
The United Nations condemns torture as one of the vilest acts perpetrated
by human beings on their fellow human beings.

Powwows in the area: There’s a printout upon request that you can get
at the Visitor Centre (at town library). It lists powwows into October in
NS, NB and PEI. In the meantime here are some coming up: June 27-28

Antigonish VON is offering an affordable transportation service
within the Antigonish area. Our friendly volunteers provide door to door
assistance to seniors to medical appointments, grocery shopping, or to
run errands and social gatherings. If you or your loved one is in the

Justice in Exile: Defending Democracy in Guatemala. Hear
courageous exiled Judge Galvez Thurs. June 25th, 7pm, Antigonish
Farmers Market Community Room. Breaking the Silence Antigonish is
privileged to receive exiled Judge Miguel Angel Galvez. He presided
over high-profile genocide and corruptoin cases, including the trial of
dictator, Rioss Montt, for genocide. Because of these cases, his life was
threatened and he had to flee to Costa Rica. Please join us
