25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Globally, for over 51,100 women in 2023, the cycle of gender-based violence ended with one final, brutal act – their murder by a partner or family member. Femicide occurs every 10 minutes. UNiTE to End Violence against Women is a campaign that runs from 25 November to 10 December, marking 16 days of activism to end gender-based violence. 29 November is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People – In our increasingly polarized world, it can be difficult to stand up for Palestinian rights while criticizing the Israeli government’s genocidal actions, (as recognized by the United Nations), without being called antisemitic. Many Jews agree! For example: Independent Jewish Voices Canada (IJV), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP – US based), Jews for Justice for Palestinians (JJP – UK based) and Hand in Hand (Israeli).
