Your Social Justice Collective reminds you that 4 April is the International Day for Mine Awareness and Action which aims to raise awareness about landmines and the need for their eradication. Consider that Ukraine is now the most mined country on earth, with an area larger than Greece in need of clearing. The 4th is also National Refugee Rights Day, the anniversary of the our Supreme Court’s 1985 Singh decision wherein the Supreme Court found that in the sentence: “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.”, “everyone” includes refugee claimants. Therefore, following the principles of fundamental justice and international law, all refugees are entitled to an oral hearing.
